At OzHarvest Ventures, we’re proud to work with sustainable, family-run Australian businesses that share our commitment to quality, craftsmanship and reducing waste. Our collaboration with Laser & Grain brings together thoughtful design, responsibly sourced materials and local expertise to create a beautiful serving board made to be enjoyed for years to come.

About Laser & Grain

Laser & Grain is a small, family-run business specialising in custom-made timber pieces personalised with laser engraving based in Canberra.

Our journey began with a fascination for transforming raw wood into beautiful, functional homewares. We started by turning root balls—material that would otherwise have been mulched—into unique statement tables. From there, we expanded into milling whole logs into slabs for tables, furniture and architectural joinery.

That same passion continues today. We love salvaging timber that isn’t suitable for high-volume sawmills and preparing it for artisans who value its natural character and create remarkable pieces by hand.

We manage the entire process, from raw material through to the finished product. Every piece is crafted in-house under our direct supervision and is never outsourced. This gives us complete control over the quality of our work and ensures every item is distinctive, carefully finished and built to last.

As a final touch, we protect our pieces with Grain Guard—our own blend of natural Australian beeswax and mineral oil.

Our Mission

Our mission is to reconnect people with thoughtfully made, durable goods.

We create distinctive, long-lasting pieces designed to be used and enjoyed for years—offering a meaningful alternative to today’s culture of disposable, mass-produced products.

The Timber

Our timber is supplied by local business Turners Building Supplies. We’re fortunate to work closely with their team and draw on more than a century of combined timber expertise.

For these boards, we selected Canadian Rock Maple sourced from the forests surrounding Quebec. Grown in rich glacial soils and exposed to extreme winter cold, the timber develops a beautifully tight grain and exceptional strength. These qualities make Rock Maple a preferred material for demanding applications such as basketball courts and bowling alley floors.

The species is also renowned for producing maple syrup. During my time in Canada, I learned that it takes around 50 litres of sap to produce just one litre of syrup. The trees are carefully and sustainably tapped, allowing them to continue growing and producing sap in future seasons. Rock Maple trees can live for up to 400 years.

Size

The boards are 300mm x 200mm (30cm x 20cm) in size.
