Circular Egg Holders

It started with a simple question: why are we wasting this?

Working in a busy kitchen, surrounded by bins of food waste, one thing stood out — eggshells. At just 19, after cracking hundreds of eggs each day, it became impossible to ignore that something so abundant was being thrown away.

That question turned into action.

Partnering with local cafés, including the team at Lune Fitzroy, eggshells are now collected regularly and given a second life. Each batch is carefully cleaned, sun-dried (or oven-dried on colder days), and hand-ground into a fine material.

Combined with eco-resin and poured into moulds, the shells are transformed into durable, beautifully textured egg holders — each one containing the equivalent of around 60 eggshells.

The process takes about two days from start to finish. It’s simple, hands-on, and intentional — a small but meaningful example of circular design in action.

By diverting waste from landfill, these pieces help reduce emissions associated with organic waste breakdown, while proving that even the most overlooked materials can be reimagined into something worth keeping.
